Why you should use a Professional photographer
It’s a well-established fact that great photos and marketing materials are a way to get more listings. If there is competition for a listing, the commitment of professionally done photography and marketing materials can help you win the listing. This can not be achieve with a point and shoot camera or a smart phone.

As an example, a person that has a 9 to 5 job that likes to go fishing on the weekends. They get to know their favorite spots and do well at fishing. A professional fisherman goes to many lakes and has the knowledge and techniques to do well at all of them. A professional photographer can be consistent in many different situations by adapting to the surroundings based on knowledge and techniques. This consistency, adaptability and knowledge are all things that bring quality results from the professional photographer.

Professional photos can make a difference in selling a home. Studies show in 2005-2006 80% of home buyers searched the Internet when looking for a home. In 2010 a study showed that number increased to almost 90%. Buyers are using technological devices such as laptops, tablets and smart phones to shop online. This trend is showing us buyers recognize how useful technology is and therefore they are going to be better at noticing professional versus point-and-shoot photos. With all the competition on the market, it is important to have professional photos because they are your first, and maybe only impression, to the majority of buyers who are searching for homes on the Internet. Statistics show listings that use professional photos generated an average 140% increase in views compared to listings with photos taken with point-and-shot cameras. These photos are simply more enjoyable to look at and therefore more likely the buyer will view all of them.

    Equipment
You can go to the camera store on the weekend and spend thousands of dollars. You spend the rest of the weekend reading the camera manual and doing research on the internet. This will not magically make you a professional photographer. It takes years of actually taking photos and processing them to develop the skills and techniques to be a good photographer. A friend of mind told me once “If I could buy my way in to being a professional photographer, I have done this at least twice.” It is true that the investment in equipment (cameras, lenses, tripods, tripod heads, strobes-flashes, computers, computer software, etc.) is quite a large amount of money.

Equipment is really a big deal, but for me it is the passion to be the best. It is not how quickly you get the photos or how fast you can do the post processing. It’s the quality of the finished product. I ask myself, is this something I would be proud to show my colleagues.
